Fuck university.
There’s absolutely no need to be having us working on 4 different important assignments at once. I mean jesus, it’s been the best part of a decade since I came out of an academic environment and it would’ve been nice to have been eased into the university workload so I could figure out how to manage my time at a reasonable pace and not feel like my head is going to pop every time I think about how much work I’ve got to do.
It’s not even the odd essay here and there either. It’s writing software, developing online media stores, inventing something and presenting it on a highly detailed website (Try inventing something in two months. Just try it.) and developing a 2D computer game when you’ve never developed anything like it in your life.
Our webdesign tutor has given us two massive courseworks since the start of the school year, each with an individual element and a group element. This would be fine if anybody felt that we were being taught all we need to know - they’re encouraging people to do their coding in WYSIWYG editors like ExpressionWeb when everyone should be learning in Notepad so they actually remember the things they’re supposed to be learning rather than having the blanks filled in for them. We’re also being told to include things in our projects, like Javascript, having had absolutely no lessons in how to use it. We were told that we should use web form validation in our last BIG IMPORTANT ASSIGNMENT which we handed in at the beginning of January and he’s only just about to cover validation in this week’s lecture! I mean, what the fuck? Captain Hindsight can’t help us here, you know. How are we supposed to apply what we’ve learned when we’re only being taught how to apply it once it’s too late for it to count towards our degrees? I don’t understand how they didn’t identify this as a problem when they were putting the course together.
There’s absolutely no way I’m continuing this pile of horseshit beyond first year.
